New fabrics have finally arrived at the shop, and we can’t wait to turn them into lots of beautiful things. Spring fabrics, colorful, fun, and some… very spiritual. As soon as we saw these mandala fabrics from Makeower’s Radiance collection, we fell completely in love (yes, you already know we’re very easy to fall in love with when it comes to fabrics). In fact, we spent several weeks waiting for them to arrive, and it was wonderful to finally have them in our hands. They’re so beautiful and have so many possibilities that we have a feeling they’re going to fly…
Well, perhaps you’re wondering what a mandala is, or maybe you already know. Just in case, we won’t leave you wondering. Mandalas are those delicate, colorful circles you can see in the fabric prints. In fact, the word mandala means “circle.” They represent the universe and are a very important element in Buddhism and Hinduism, although they also appear in other cultures. They are a meditation tool intended to bring peace and balance, and in them, what matters isn’t the finished result but the process of creating it.
That’s why we like these fabrics so much. On the one hand, there’s that exotic, colorful touch that immediately transports us to India; on the other, the harmony and spirituality they convey. The mandala also represents our own inner universe, so when we create a mandala, we’re representing our own experiences, as if we were drawing a map of the path we’ve traveled.
Tibetan mandalas are very famous: enormous works of ephemeral art made with sand by monks, which were destroyed once they were finished. Not only are they a powerful form of meditation, but many of them are made at the request of the community to bring peace and harmony to the world. For now, we’ll be satisfied if they bring peace and harmony to you… Don’t these mandala fabrics seem even more beautiful now that you know a little more about them?
Unlike the monks, you don’t have to undo the work you make with them once you use them. Quite the opposite—you should enjoy them to the fullest.
