Yesterday we launched an offer on social media to get a very special Advent calendar, and you liked it so much that it sold out in just a couple of hours. We asked our supplier whether we could bring more to the store, but horror of horrors—he told us it was sold out for him too. And since we felt bad that some of you were left without one, today we're going to show you how to make Christmas stockings with a sewing machine.
You can choose to make them simple—just a front and a back, nothing else—in which case you only need to place the template, cut, sew right sides together, and turn them right side out. Don't forget the cord for hanging them, of course. Or you can make them with a lining, as you'll see in the video tutorial we share below.
If you make them with a lining, as we suggest in the video, they'll be much more durable, have more body, and have a more professional finish. The advantage of making Christmas stockings from scratch, compared with using the panel, is that you can be much more creative and personalize them as much as possible.

In our opinion, the great thing about this tutorial is, as we already mentioned, that you have complete freedom to create the stockings however you like. Just remember that to make the Advent calendar, you have to make a total of 24 and number them all.
You can sew on the number as an appliqué, just as Laura explains at the end of the video. You can also draw it with a fabric marker if the fabric's print allows it. Or sew on a small piece of chalkboard fabric and draw the number with chalk. Print it onto a small piece of Kraft Tex. Or, if you like embroidery, sew them by hand—the Club recently added an introductory embroidery class.
Try making the inside with sherpa fabric and the outside in red for the most classic version, or choose a Christmas-inspired fabric and let the number be the star.
The possibilities are endless: add little bells, colorful pom-poms, mistletoe leaves, draw faces with different expressions, recreate Santa's reindeer with felt, add names… Do whatever you want!
