Something fresh and summery, something full of color, something comfortable that you can wear for any occasion… Skirts! Today we're presenting four ways to make a skirt with a sewing machine.
The idea is to inspire you with the designs and give you ideas for personalizing them and making them your own. Here is our latest creation: a beautiful skirt with front buttons and pockets
Depending on the type of skirt and whether you use Lulu Ferris patterns, you'll see that some designs come in girls' sizes and others in women's sizes. If you wanted to make one of the designs with girls' sizing for yourself, or vice versa, you'd only need to adjust the scale of the measurements.
1. Skirt with front buttons and pockets
Our latest creation. This one doesn't have a pattern because in the video tutorial we show you how to take and calculate the measurements. So the only thing you'll need is to be able to measure the skirt's future owner—whether that's you or another lucky person.
The waistband is elastic and the fabric is very gathered to give it that lovely fullness. But the real design flourish is undoubtedly the buttons down the front. Don't be afraid of buttonholes, because we explain how to make them in the tutorial.
2. High-waisted pencil skirt
Here's a style that's perfect for summer, winter, or the in-between seasons. Depending on the fabric you use, it will be more or less lightweight and cool. Even though it's a pencil skirt, it's very comfortable and stretchy, so you can walk and move with complete freedom.
It's suuuper easy to make, and you'll find the pattern in women's size M, although it's a very forgiving M because the knit fabric we've used contains elastane. At the beginning of the video, Laura explains how to adjust the size depending on whether you want it larger or smaller.
3. Full circle skirt
Making this skirt is the easiest thing ever. You can also take the measurements and make the pattern yourself. The waistband is elastic too, and we love the full-skirt effect. But our little dancers love it even more: get ready to watch them laugh and spin like tops.
If you want to give it a more elegant feel, you can use chiffon, tulle, or another material and make it long or mid-length: ideal for wearing to a party or going out on a summer evening.
4. Skirt with pockets for girls
You could also make this skirt without the pockets, although your girl will surely love having them to keep all her treasures in. Don't be afraid to make them, because they aren't as difficult as they might seem if you've never tried before.
