Interview with Kurtik Creacions

Each week I’ll introduce you to the artisans who have held—or will hold—workshops and classes at Lulu, so you can get to know them a little better. I think it will be interesting for everyone to learn where their passion comes from, how they got started, and so on… Aren’t you curious??! There’s a story behind every person […]

I think it will be interesting for everyone to learn where their passion comes from, how they got started, and so on… Aren’t you curious??!

There’s a story behind every person, and today we’re starting with Genís and Neus from Kurtik Creacions, two young people who work with leather and make beautiful accessories, bags, wallets, phone cases, tobacco pouches….

1) What is your hobby/work?
Leathercraft

2) When did you start?

Two years ago

3) How did you get into it?

I’ve always liked crafts in general, and one day some friends taught me a few basics of working with leather. That’s how I started… I bought my own tools and taught myself more and more.

4) What do you enjoy most about what you do?
The production process: designing the pieces and bringing them to life (turning an idea into an object)

5) What project would you like to do but haven’t had time for yet?

There are some very beautiful leather-decoration techniques, such as embossing—that is, adding relief to smooth leather. I’d also like to create or invent new objects related to technology that are practical.

6) Is there anyone you follow whom you’d like to collaborate with?

You always come across people who stand out to you because of their designs, the techniques they use, and so on. Personally, I’d like to innovate by combining leather goods with other creative fields such as jewelry, textile construction, and so on.

7) How can people contact you?
Online stores
products
Now you know them a little better. You’d like to take a workshop with them, right?! Well, next Saturday, May 18, you have a date with them at Lulu to make a beautiful and practical leather coin purse. More information here: «Leather coin purse workshop«
