Another little page has fallen from the 2016 calendar. We say goodbye to August and welcome September full of energy. Every season is a new opportunity to create, invent, experiment, and have fun. For example, this season is perfect for enjoying back-to-school DIY projects.

It’s still summer, the sun is still shining in the sky, and our shop is full of beautiful fabrics. Kids and teachers are heading back to class with a whole year ahead of them, full of adventures and discoveries. It’s the season of that brand-new smell, perfectly sharpened pencils, and everything still waiting to begin. And to make the first day truly special, we’re going to turn on the sewing machines and put these three lovely ideas on the table.

Let’s get started!

Back-to-school DIY ideas

A smock that’s unique, creative, bursting with color and personality. Whether it’s for an adult or a child, this beautiful school smock will break up the monotony. There are two ways to learn how to make it:

  • School smock video tutorial through Lulu Ferris: if you’re a member, you can make a little smock with an elastic neckline (no buttons). Laura shows you step by step how to make this adorable, original, super-easy project.
  • In-person school smock workshop: And if you live in Mataró or nearby, come make it with us. Click the link to see the dates and conditions.

back-to-school DIY backpack fabric multipurpose bag2. Backpack or multipurpose bag

One of the most classic and versatile back-to-school DIY projects. Backpacks and multipurpose bags are our favorites for carrying snacks, a change of clothes for daycare… Each one is different, and you can personalize it with your child’s name so they don’t get mixed up. There are also several ways to get your multipurpose bag/backpack:

  • Multipurpose backpack with a clear window tutorial: If you’re a member, you’ll love the fabric backpack with a clear window that you can learn to make with Laura. Easy and perfectly explained, as always.
  • Backpack with flap and adjustable straps tutorial: One of the latest tutorials through Lulu Ferris. It’s not just for school—it’s also perfect for everyday outings. You’ll see that you’ll want one for yourself too.
  • Multipurpose bag tutorial on YouTube: If you haven’t joined yet, you can always make a more basic and simple version. Click the link to access the multipurpose bag tutorial on our YouTube channel.
  • Panels with instructions for super-fun backpacks: We also have these instruction panels in the shop so you can make yourself a “professional” backpack. Three models available!
  • Ask us to make one for you: Don’t have time? A little rusty with the machine? Then ask us to make one for you completely personalized. Take a look at all the beautiful designs we’ve already made on our social media and get inspired to order your own.

back-to-school DIY pencil case3. Zippered pencil case or roll-up pencil holder

And to keep all your writing and drawing supplies safely stored, you need a beautiful pencil case. We’re suggesting two different models: the classic pencil case or a roll-up pencil holder that you can learn to make through the following links.

  • Zippered pencil case: A very simple tutorial you’ll find on our YouTube channel. You can laminate the fabric with Lamifix to prevent catastrophic ink leaks.
  • Roll-up pencil holder: A very original option that we love and that you can also find on our YouTube channel.

And enjoy a new beginning!
