What you’ll make
Sew a removable liner that gives a wicker basket a finished interior without attaching it permanently. The featured version has a zippered top, an interior pocket, and an optional key clip.
The liner folds over the rim and can be removed for washing or exchanged for another design. Crocheted T-shirt-yarn covers help prevent the basket handles from chafing your skin.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Draft a custom liner pattern from your basket.
- Position a pocket below the foldover edge and zipper.
- Sew and topstitch a zipper with a zipper foot.
- Ease the liner body onto its base.
- Finish the handle openings and add trim.
- Crochet simple T-shirt-yarn handle covers.
Materials and fabric
You’ll work with fabric, a zipper, pattern paper, and the wicker basket you want to line. Optional details include a snap hook for keys, T-shirt yarn, pom-pom trim, fringe, and fabric paint.
Make it your own
Add one pocket or several, omit the key clip, vary how far the fabric extends over the rim, or finish the edge with pom-poms or fringe. You can also stencil a painted motif onto the basket.
