Here’s a practical tutorial for the whole family. Many of us have tablets or laptops, so we’re showing you how to make a sleeve to keep them safely stored and protected. You’ll also learn how to calculate the measurements for any model.

What you’ll make
Sew a zippered, padded sleeve sized for your tablet or laptop. Batting cushions the device, while the lining creates a neat interior without exposed seams.
The exterior can be quilted, pieced, appliquéd or kept simple. A rounded corner allows the zipper to follow the upper edge of the sleeve.

Fabric and supplies
You’ll need exterior fabric, lining fabric, batting and a zipper. A walking foot can help with quilting and padded layers, while straight or decorative stitches can provide the quilted finish.
Make it your own
Use one exterior fabric, combine prints, add appliqué or quilt each side differently. You can also piece the exterior using the log cabin sewing machine cover technique.
The remaining corners may be square or rounded. Test decorative stitches on a fabric and batting scrap before sewing the sleeve.

The included worksheet begins with your device’s width and height. It then guides you through calculating the cutting dimensions and zipper-stop length for the zipper you choose.
