What you’ll make

Sew a padded cover for a stroller bassinet, plus a fitted cover for its mattress pad. The set offers a practical way to protect the bassinet or refresh its appearance.

Elastic at both ends helps the main cover conform to the bassinet. Fabric ties at the sides secure it in place and add a decorative finish.

What you’ll learn in this class

Prepare and turn neat fabric ties.
Join the outer and inner cover layers with batting.
Sew elastic between marked points to gather the ends.
Finish the hidden lower edge with binding or a suitable seam finish.
Draft a fitted cover directly from your mattress pad.
Sew an elastic casing and adjust the gathering for a secure fit.

Fabric suggestions

The sample uses poplin and batting. Piqué and other woven fabrics are also suitable. Stretch fabric can be used with an appropriate ballpoint needle.

Choose soft, lofty batting or a denser cotton batting. You can also quilt the padded outer layers for visible stitching and added stability.

Make it your own

Make the ties from the main fabric or use ready-made ribbon. Finish the hidden lower edge with a simple seam finish or enclose it with bias binding.

The mattress cover is based on your own pad rather than a fixed pattern piece, so you can adapt it to the pad’s actual length, width, and depth.

Choose the right size

The PDF provides two main-cover sizes: T/P for strollers 70–80 cm long and T/G for strollers 80–90 cm long.

The sample mattress measures 30 × 74 × 3 cm, but you will use your own pad to draft its fitted cover.

The class includes an A4 bassinet-cover pattern in two sizes.
