What you’ll make
Palmira is a sleeveless summer top with gathered shoulder shaping and an elasticated hem. The upper section stays relaxed while the gathered lower edge can sit closer to the body.
The pattern works with woven or knit fabric and includes a different neckline piece for each. Make a fluid blouse in viscose or a softer, sportier version in jersey.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Form the shoulder gathers and join the front and back.
- Stabilize woven edges that may distort.
- Choose the correct neckline finish for woven or knit fabric.
- Check the woven neckline opening before finishing it.
- Finish the armholes with a narrow turned edge.
- Sew a hem casing and insert the elastic without twisting it.
- Distribute and secure the gathers at the side seams.
Choosing your fabric
A lightweight woven such as viscose gives Palmira fluid drape and movement. Jersey creates a softer, sportier version and should be sewn with a needle intended for stretch fabric.
The woven version uses a matching fabric strip at the neckline. The knit version uses a stretch neckband and a different assembly sequence.
Make it your own
- Omit the hem elastic for a looser, straight-falling top.
- Adjust the elastic after trying on the unfinished casing.
- Enlarge or reshape the front or back neckline.
- Lower the armholes for a more open, layered sportswear look.
- Choose a fluid woven for a polished result or jersey for a casual one.

The pattern covers grouped sizes 34/36 through 54/56. Finished top lengths range from 52 to 57 cm, with body measurements and hem-elastic lengths listed for each size group.
