What you’ll make
Sew a padded Nintendo Switch case with a main zipper that opens across the top and down one side, providing clear access when placing the console inside or taking it out.
A mesh panel helps hold the console when the case is open. The front zip pocket stores games, a charging cable or other small accessories.
Batting adds softness and protection from minor bumps. Optional rings on the back can accept a removable wrist strap or longer shoulder strap.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Bind the top of a stretch mesh pocket.
- Baste batting to the exterior panels.
- Add fabric stops to zippers.
- Build and attach a front zip pocket.
- Sew a zipper around a curved opening.
- Join, turn and close the padded case.
- Reinforce optional carrying-strap tabs.
Fabric and padding
Canvas is recommended for the exterior and poplin for the lining. Support a lighter outer fabric with lightweight interfacing before adding the batting.
The design also uses mesh for the interior restraint and batting for cushioning. Overcast fabrics that fray heavily, especially along the front pocket’s zipper edge.
Make it your own
Quilt the batting and outer panels with lines, diamonds or another design, or leave them smooth. Zipper stops can be made from folded bias binding.
Add two rings for a removable long strap, one ring for a wrist strap or no rings for a simpler case. Swivel hooks make the optional straps easy to change.
The class includes the printable case pattern, materials information and a detailed video lesson for this layered accessory.
