What you’ll make

Nara is a versatile sleepwear pattern that can become a long nightdress or a shorter T-shirt. Choose long or short sleeves, then combine the top with Vera pants for a coordinated pajama set.

The detailed long sleeve has a teardrop opening, button closure, and soft gathers finished with binding. The neckline can include a cord-loop opening with small buttons or remain unbuttoned.

What you’ll learn in this class

  • Use Nara as either a nightdress or pajama top.
  • Bind the sleeve openings and optional neckline slit.
  • Position cord loops for the button closures.
  • Gather the long sleeves evenly into bound cuffs.
  • Set the shaped sleeves with controlled ease.
  • Finish Nara in woven or knit fabric.

Fabric choices

Nara can be sewn in knit fabric or a stable woven such as flannel. The class samples use soft pointelle knit and checked flannel, allowing the same pattern to work for lighter or warmer sleepwear.

Fabric choice affects the sleeve finish. A gathered woven cuff needs the teardrop opening so the hand can pass through, while a wider hemmed sleeve can omit the opening and gathers.

Make it your own

For short sleeves, choose a simple hem, a rib-knit band with soft elastic, or binding with elastic inside. Keep the detailed gathered long cuff or simplify it to a wider hemmed sleeve.

The neckline opening and buttons are optional, as shown by the summer nightdress. You can also omit the sleeves or add small side slits to either the nightdress or top.

Pair the Nara top with the short or long Vera pants. The long Vera version was developed to coordinate with this project, but another pajama-bottom pattern can also be used.

Pattern sizing

The pattern covers sizes 34/36 through 54/56. Its chart spans 86–132 cm at the chest, 64–110 cm at the waist, and 90–136 cm at the hips.

Finished nightdress length ranges from 93 cm in size 34/36 to 103 cm in size 54/56. The pattern is available in A4 and A0 formats.

The video class includes downloadable A4 and A0 pattern files and a separate information file with the size chart and material guidance.
