What you’ll make

Sew a roomy, lined diaper bag with organized interior compartments, accessible exterior pockets and a zippered top.

Carry it by the handles, wear it with the removable crossbody strap or attach it to a stroller with the separate hook-and-loop straps and swivel hooks.

Although designed for baby essentials, the layout also works for travel, the gym, picnics or everyday use.

What you’ll learn in this class

  • Interface the exterior pieces for structure.
  • Create elasticized side pockets and an inverted-pleat pocket.
  • Build and topstitch a lined zipper panel.
  • Assemble the curved outer and lining sections.
  • Add rings and webbing for each carrying option.
  • Turn the bag through the lining and close the opening.

Fabric and materials

The demonstrated bag uses canvas, a fabric lining and fusible interfacing on the main exterior pieces.

Interface lighter exterior pockets as needed. The project also uses elastic, webbing, a zipper, rings, swivel hooks and hook-and-loop tape.

Make it your own

Change the number of interior pockets, add stitched dividers or organize each side around the items you carry.

Customize the carrying system by keeping the handles, using the crossbody strap or adding the removable stroller attachments.

Finished size

The finished bag measures approximately 25 cm high, 35.5 cm wide and 11 cm deep.

This project has many components and is best completed in stages. The instructors spent about six hours cutting, preparing and sewing while filming.

The video covers the complete bag and its carrying accessories. The downloadable PDF provides the cutting measurements and material list.
