What you’ll make
Make a reusable organizer that keeps a sewing project, its pattern, fabric and notions together and visible between work sessions.
The Mataró bag has a spacious main compartment and a smaller front compartment, each with a zipper. Clear front and back panels reveal the contents without opening the bag.
A clear sleeve holds the project label, while bias-tape loops let the organizer hang from a hanger, hook or storage rail.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Prepare fabric and clear plastic panels for assembly.
- Create an open label sleeve on the front window.
- Sew plastic with a suitable presser foot or paper barrier.
- Join clear windows to fabric and topstitch the seams flat.
- Apply bias tape and install the zippered openings.
- Add hanging loops before closing the main compartment.
- Form boxed corners and optionally bind exposed edges.
Materials
The project combines exterior fabric with clear plastic, zippers and bias tape. The PDF supplies the cutting measurements and material quantities.
Poplin, canvas and other fabrics that may fray are discussed in class. The fabric pieces are overcast before being joined to the plastic.
Make it your own
- Adjust the height or width to hold larger projects.
- Lengthen, shorten or omit the hanging loops.
- Replace bias-tape loops with ribbon or cord, or add snaps or eyelets for your storage setup.
- Combine solid or printed fabric with contrasting zippers and bias tape.

The verified approximate finished size is 38 cm wide by 35 cm high. The PDF provides the individual cutting dimensions.
