What you’ll make

The Margarita is a folding travel jewelry case for organizing earrings, rings, necklaces, bracelets, clips, and other small accessories at home or away.

It includes two upper zippered pockets, a large side zippered pocket, a clear lower pocket, padded ring rolls, an earring panel, and a snap-fastened necklace section.

What you’ll learn in this class

  • Build several compartments with continuous zippers.
  • Bind and install a clear-vinyl pocket.
  • Sew, turn, fill, and secure padded ring rolls.
  • Attach a Kraf-tex panel for earrings.
  • Create snap tabs and an elastic necklace holder.
  • Assemble the sections into a folding case.

Fabric and structure

Canvas gives the case body, while poplin, denim, or another woven fabric can also be used. The sample canvas is supported with lightweight interfacing.

Use firmer interfacing or batting if you want more structure. Reinforcing the fabric beneath the snaps helps protect it during repeated opening and closing.

Make it your own

Replace the clear-vinyl window with fabric if you do not need to see the contents. Coordinate the bias tape or seam-covering ribbon with your main fabrics.

  • Resize or reposition the Kraf-tex earring panel.
  • Gather the necklace pocket instead of pleating it.
  • Vary the filling in each roll for different ring sizes.
  • Add another closure position for a fuller case.

Finished size

The finished case measures approximately 27 cm high by 17 cm wide when closed and 27 cm high by 47 cm wide when open.

The video class covers each component and the final assembly, with a printable A4 pattern and materials guide.
