What you’ll make
Sew a lined Lilibet drawstring bag with a circular base, an interior slip pocket, a shoulder strap, and two ties that gather the opening from opposite sides.
The finished bag is approximately 23 cm high, 16 cm wide, and 16 cm deep, with room for essentials and a pocket for organization.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Choose interfacing to suit the fabric and desired structure.
- Sew and attach a lined interior slip pocket.
- Use notches and quarter points to align the circular bases.
- Join and turn the outer bag and lining, then form the drawstring casing.
- Make and attach a fabric shoulder strap.
- Thread two ties so the opening gathers evenly.
Fabric and structure
The sample uses lightweight poplin for both the exterior and lining. Choose a woven fabric and match the interfacing to its weight and your preferred finish.
Fine fabric may benefit from interfacing in the main pieces and bases. Sturdier fabric may need none, while very firm interfacing can make the bag harder to gather.
Make it your own
- Make the shoulder strap from fabric, cord, or metal chain.
- Add a cord lock to make the strap adjustable.
- Use fabric ties, cord, decorative lace, or pom-pom trim at the closure.
- Add a second interior pocket for more organization.
- Leave the bag soft, add interfacing, or quilt the fabric for more structure.
Finished size
The approximate finished measurements are 23 cm high, 16 cm wide, and 16 cm deep.
The video class includes an A4 PDF pattern. The materials sheet also provides the piece dimensions for cutting directly without printing the pattern.
