What you’ll make
Sew an open-front, one-size kimono with relaxed sleeves and a fluid silhouette. Finish the lower edge with long fringe for movement or keep it clean with a simple hem.
The pattern uses a back cut on the fold, two mirrored fronts, and two mirrored sleeves. It was tried on wearers from XS through XL for the intended loose kimono fit.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Cut mirrored pieces while respecting print direction.
- Join the front and back at the shoulders.
- Set the sleeves into the open armholes.
- Sew each sleeve and body side in one continuous seam.
- Make double-fold finishes at the cuffs, fronts, and neckline.
- Attach fringe neatly along the lower edge.
Fabric guidance
Choose a lightweight woven fabric with fluid drape, such as crepe. Check the motif direction before cutting a directional print.
A fine needle suits the lightweight crepe used in class. Careful pinning helps control fabric that shifts easily.
Make it your own
Replace the long fringe with pom-pom trim or finish the lower edge with a hem. Fringe can also be added elsewhere after measuring the intended edge.
Extend the pattern to make a longer or full-length kimono, preserving the original shape and grain direction as you add length.

This is a one-size pattern tried on wearers from XS through XL. It is supplied in A4 and A0 formats.
The video class includes the one-size kimono pattern in home-print and large-format versions, plus its pattern information file.
