What you’ll make
Make a roomy floor beanbag with a stitched inner cover for the filling and a zippered outer cover that can be removed for washing.
The featured outer cover combines two fabrics, can be turned to display either side, and includes a sturdy carrying handle. A curved end shapes the large rectangular panels.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Shape large panels into a rounded beanbag cover.
- Sew and close the inner filling bag.
- Center and install a long zipper.
- Add a handle at the zipper seam.
- Control large panels while sewing and turning.
- Fill the insert while containing the loose beads.
Fabric and filling
You’ll need durable outer fabric, separate lining fabric, a long zipper, and expanded-polystyrene beads or cushion filling. The featured handle is kraft-tex, but faux leather or another sturdy material also works.
Fabric glue can temporarily secure the filled insert before stitching. Filling and closing it are easier with a helper because the lightweight beads escape easily.
Make it your own
Use one outer fabric or combine two coordinating designs. You can also replace the zipper with hook-and-loop tape and choose a different sturdy material for the carrying handle.
Verified measurements
Each inner and outer cover begins with a 110 × 160 cm panel, which can also be assembled from two 110 × 80 cm sections.
