What you’ll make

Learn to sew two parallel rows of straight stitching on the right side, with a zigzag formation underneath. This twin-needle finish adds stretch to hems on knits, sweatshirts and similar garments.

The demonstration uses a domestic sewing machine and explains how to recognize a compatible needle by its flat back and rounded front.

What you’ll learn in this class

  • Choose among universal, stretch and jeans twin needles.
  • Read package markings for needle spacing and needle size.
  • Install the twin needle in the correct direction.
  • Route two upper threads through the same path and thread one needle with each.
  • Test on a scrap of the project fabric before sewing the garment.
  • Assess tension by checking for the correct zigzag underneath.
  • Use the machine’s free arm to sew a circular knit hem when available.

A good sample has two even parallel lines on top and a clear zigzag beneath. If the underside does not form correctly, continue adjusting and testing the tension on matching fabric.
