What you’ll make
Create a two-piece dress-up set with a reversible lined vest and an adjustable fabric-feather headdress.
The vest can also become an everyday or special-occasion layer when sewn in fabrics suited to the intended look.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Cut mirrored vest fronts and matching layers.
- Assemble a reversible, fully lined vest.
- Clip curves and turn the vest cleanly.
- Close the opening with an invisible stitch.
- Stabilize layered fabric feathers.
- Sew a structured headdress with an adjustable closure.
Fabric and supplies
Use exterior and lining fabrics, cotton braid or another vest closure, hook-and-loop tape, and medium or firm fusible interfacing.
The sample pairs an arrow print with a solid rust lining, then repeats those fabrics in the headdress with mustard and blue scraps.
Make it your own
Add pockets, fringe, braid, buttons, or another closure before joining the vest layers. A more formal fabric can turn the same pattern into an occasion vest.
Choose how many large and small feathers to use, trim their edges into different shapes, or add outline and center stitching.
Sizing
The downloadable vest pattern includes sizes 12–24 months, 2–3 years, and 4–6 years. The headdress has an adjustable hook-and-loop closure.
The complete class includes the downloadable vest and headdress pattern, with three vest sizes and two fabric-feather templates.
