What you’ll make

This fabric organizer opens like a book to reveal four zippered storage pockets. Clear windows show the contents, while an outer zipper and two handles keep the organizer closed and easy to carry.

Choose a small or large version for sewing notions, craft materials, patterns, drawings, papers, or other supplies. The page-like pockets keep different items separated and secure.

What you’ll learn in this class

  • Choose interfacing for a soft or structured finish.
  • Attach the carrying straps to the outer cover.
  • Install the outer zipper between the cover and lining.
  • Bind clear pocket windows and join them to zippers.
  • Help plastic feed smoothly while sewing.
  • Bind the pocket-panel edges while managing zipper bulk.
  • Mark the spine and attach the pages in the correct orientation.

Fabric and structural choices

Poplin is demonstrated for the cover, lining, and pocket bases, while canvas is another option for the exterior. Use a thinner flexible plastic or firmer clear vinyl for the windows.

Choose light, medium, or double-sided fusible interfacing, or use a stabilizer for more body. Test the combined layers to make sure your machine can handle the thickness.

Make it your own

  • Replace the clear windows with fabric for opaque pockets.
  • Mix four pocket fabrics or coordinate every page.
  • Vary the interfacing for a softer book or firmer case.
  • Add elastic straps inside the cover for a notebook or pen.
  • Add a fabric, mesh, or chalkboard-fabric pocket inside the cover.

Finished sizes

  • Small: approximately 21.5 cm wide × 18 cm high × 4 cm deep.
  • Large: approximately 31.5 cm wide × 25 cm high × 7 cm deep.

Both versions use the same book-style layout, scaled to their respective finished dimensions.

The class includes the sewing video and a downloadable PDF with cutting measurements and material information for both organizer sizes.
