What you’ll make
Sew a semi-rigid fabric basket with a lid, handles, a divided exterior pocket and a removable interior divider. Decovil supports the sides so the basket keeps its shape.
Use the compartments for sewing tools, nursery supplies or other essentials, or remove the center panel when you need one open space.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Fuse Decovil with steam and a damp pressing cloth.
- Reinforce the lining and pocket with lighter interfacing.
- Bind and divide an exterior pocket.
- Install hook-and-loop tape for a removable divider.
- Form a flat base with boxed corners.
- Secure the lining, lid and handles at a bulky upper edge.
Fabric and supplies
Use coordinating exterior, lining and pocket fabrics. Decovil supplies the main structure, while lighter fusible interfacing supports the lining and pocket.
Bias tape finishes the pocket. Webbing forms the handles, and hook-and-loop tape secures the divider and lid.
Make it your own
- Choose short decorative or longer carrying handles.
- Place the removable divider in the center or to one side.
- Divide the exterior pocket into as many sections as needed.
- Mix contrasting fabrics across the basket components.
