What you’ll make
Sew a padded folio-style case sized for your e-reader or tablet.
Elastic at the corners holds the device in place, while an interior pocket stores a charging cable, pen, or small notebook.
Two straps close with snaps. Batting cushions the case, and optional corrugated plastic adds firmness and protection.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Calculate the case pieces from your device’s measurements.
- Prepare and attach the elastic corner supports.
- Finish and position an interior accessory pocket.
- Add batting and optional inserts while preserving the center fold.
- Reinforce the fabric for snaps and finish the closing straps.
The class also offers guidance for controlling fraying fabrics and sewing through thicker layered areas.
Fabric and structure
The samples use poplin or canvas. A lightweight pocket can be stabilized with interfacing, while canvas may have enough body without it.
Batting provides cushioning. For more structure, add corrugated plastic or sturdy cardboard. You can instead use extra batting or medium-weight interfacing.
Make it your own
Finish the pocket edge with bias tape or a hem. The case can close with snaps or hook-and-loop tape.
Add another snap position if you want the closure to adjust for carrying the charger or other bulky items.
Sizing it to your device
The PDF uses a 14 × 16 cm Kindle Oasis as its example. The closed sample case measures approximately 15 cm wide, 16 cm high, and 2.5 cm thick.
The class and measurement guide explain how to recalculate the pieces for another e-reader or tablet.
The class includes a downloadable measurement and materials guide for the sample and other device sizes.
