What you’ll make
Sew the Daphne, a fluid maxi skirt with overlapping front panels and an elastic waistband.
Long waist ties form a bow at the center or side. The wrap-style front creates movement, while the elastic waistband makes the skirt easy to pull on.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Choose a needle and stitch for drapey stretch fabric.
- Sew, turn and press long narrow ties.
- Join the back and overlapping front panels.
- Finish and hem the long curved edge without distortion.
- Align the front overlap using pattern notches.
- Attach the waistband while keeping the ties free.
- Insert and join the elastic so it stays evenly distributed.
Fabric options
Choose a fabric with stretch and fluid drape. The demonstrated versions use knit viscose and modal.
Stretch satin can create a dressier skirt, while a casual knit gives a more relaxed result. Use a stretch, jersey or super-stretch needle suited to the fabric.
Make it your own
Wear the bow at the center or side, shorten the ties to your preferred length or omit them for a plain elastic waistband.
Style the skirt with the basic tank top or the Erika T-shirt.
Sizing and length
The pattern covers sizes 34/36 through 54/56. The chart spans waist measurements of 64–110 cm and hip measurements of 90–136 cm.
Finished skirt length ranges from 96 cm in size 34/36 to 101 cm in size 54/56. The PDF also provides a size-specific elastic length.
The video class includes A4 and A0 patterns, plus a PDF with the size chart and essential project information.
