Brunei Jumpsuit

What you’ll make
Sew the Brunei, a close-fitting knit jumpsuit with wide straps, a double-layer bodice, and dramatically flared shorts that create the look and movement of a short skirt.
Bodice darts provide shaping, while ties extending from the side waist can be knotted at the front. The wide straps are designed to cover standard bra straps.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Sew accurate bodice darts in a stretch knit.
- Join a double-layer bodice with clean edges.
- Sew the enclosed armholes shown in the lesson.
- Match bodice, waist, and shorts notches.
- Add optional ties at the side waist.
- Assemble the garment with stretch-compatible stitches.
Fabric choice
This pattern requires a stretch knit and is not suitable for woven fabric. Lightweight jersey, viscose jersey, and modal are used or recommended in the class.
Choose a drapey knit for fluid shorts. A firmer jersey gives the skirt-like shape more body, while viscose jersey or modal creates greater movement.
Use a stretch, jersey, or super-stretch needle. The lesson covers sewing with a serger or a conventional machine using stretch-compatible seam finishes.
Make it your own
The waist ties are optional. Make them in the jumpsuit fabric for a continuous look or use a contrasting knit to emphasize the front bow.
Turn and stitch the hem, or leave the lower edge raw when using a knit that does not fray or curl. The lesson also shows how to secure the serger thread tails.

Pattern sizing
The pattern covers 34/36 through 54/56. Its chart spans a bust of 86–132 cm, waist of 64–110 cm, and hips of 90–136 cm.
Finished total length ranges from 76 cm in size 34/36 to 83.5 cm in size 54/56.
