What you’ll make

Transform the Madrid T-Shirt pattern into the Brisa, an asymmetric knit top with one exposed shoulder, two differently shaped sleeves and an adjustable shoulder strap.

The front and back use the same transformed shape in mirror image, so the finished top can be turned around to place the exposed shoulder on either side.

The Madrid base is close-fitting, but the class explains how choosing a larger pattern size creates a looser Brisa.

What you’ll learn in this class

  • Create the full pattern needed for an asymmetric design.
  • Redraw the neckline, shoulder and sleeves while keeping the pieces aligned.
  • Label and cut mirrored front and back pieces.
  • Choose a knit-compatible needle and elastic seam finish.
  • Attach the two sleeve shapes and finish the neckline and hems.
  • Fit, adjust and securely attach the shoulder strap.

Choosing your fabric

This design is intended for stretch knit. The samples use viscose knit and a lightweight sparkly knit, allowing the asymmetric neckline and strap to sit comfortably.

Use a jersey or stretch needle and a seam that retains elasticity, such as a stretch stitch, zigzag or overlock seam.

Make it your own

  • Expose one shoulder or adapt both shoulders.
  • Use one strap, two straps or omit them.
  • Make the strap narrower or use slim or braided knit strips.
  • Choose your usual base size for a closer fit or size up for more ease.
  • Adjust the strap after trying on the top and checking its position.

Sizing and pattern details

The Madrid base pattern covers sizes 34/36 through 54/56. Its chart spans a bust circumference of 86–132 cm, waist of 64–110 cm and hip circumference of 90–136 cm.

The base pattern lists finished lengths of 54–59 cm by size. Select your usual size or size up before making the Brisa transformation.

The video covers both the pattern transformation and garment construction. The Madrid base pattern comes in printable A4 and copy-shop A0 formats with an information sheet.
