What you’ll make
Sew baby doll panties with softly gathered edges, a lined gusset, and lace elastic at the legs and waist. The featured pair has a small ribbon bow and button at the front.
The class demonstrates a woven-fabric version, with the gathers created by controlled tension in the lace elastic.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Cut folded pieces with a directional print.
- Attach and baste the soft gusset lining.
- Apply lace elastic with consistent tension.
- Turn and secure the elastic without stretching it.
- Finish the side seams by overlocker or zigzag.
- Add an optional bow and button.
Fabric and elastic
The demonstrated pair uses woven fabric and lace elastic. Choose soft stretch cotton for the inner gusset lining.
Knit fabric is also supported, but its stretch direction should follow the pattern grainline. A ballpoint or stretch needle is recommended for elastic and knit fabric.
Make it your own
Change the body fabric and lace-elastic color for everyday, holiday, or gift versions. The front bow and button are optional and can be replaced with another lightweight detail.
