What you’ll make
The Alma is a fitted stretch-knit dress with slightly dropped shoulders, a neckband-finished neckline, and a side tie that forms flattering gathers.
Choose a short or midi length. A printed knit gives it a casual feel, while a solid jersey can create a more dressed-up version.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Match the marked points that shape the gathered front.
- Sew and turn the side tie neatly.
- Join knit seams with a stretch stitch or serger.
- Finish the armholes and sew a knit hem.
- Fit a neckband and adjust it for the fabric’s recovery.
- Use a twin needle for parallel topstitching if desired.
Fabric and sewing setup
Use a knit with stretch so the fitted dress can move comfortably. The samples use fluid viscose knit and stretch jersey.
Choose a stretch, super-stretch, or jersey needle. The class also shows how to test the neckband fit before completing the finish.
Make it your own
Make the dress short or midi, or shorten it into a top.
- Add a side slit to the long version for more movement.
- Place the slit opposite the tie or on your preferred side.
- Leave the lower edge raw if your knit does not ravel.
Sizing and measurements
The pattern includes sizes 34/36, 38/40, 42/44, 46/48, 50/52, and 54/56.
Body measurements span an 86–132 cm bust, 64–110 cm waist, and 90–136 cm hip. The long dress measures 118–128 cm in total length, depending on size.
